Acoustic Alchemy: Things of Stone & Wood & Toby

Friday 8 December, 2017

Please note, this is a BYO picnic and alcohol event.

This year, we have a powerhouse lineup, with Things of Stone and Wood, Toby and Carus Thompson performing!

Things of Stone and Wood helped define Melbourne in the early 90s.  Top 10 single ‘Happy Birthday Helen’, and gold album ‘The Yearning’ kicked off a stellar career.

Their imaginative use of organic instruments paved the way for the likes of John Butler, The Waifs and Angus & Julia Stone.

They are ARIA winners and APRA Songwriters of the Year – but on stage performances truly demonstrates why they’re so loved.

This will be a very special performance at the Quarry Amphitheatre (after launching their debut album “The Yearning” at The Quarry years ago)  – it’s going to be an emotional and wonderfully charged performance. Things Of Stone & Wood do everything, they draw you in, they make you feel and they make you dance.  They’re one of the best live bands you’ll ever see.

Also featuring Toby and Carus Thompson!

2017 has been yet again, another huge year for Perth singer/songwriter Toby Beard. Highlights have been performing at L-fest (UK), Bierfest (Germany), Blues at Bridgetown Festival and Fremantle Folk Festival, playing a sell-out CD launch (Fly By Night Club, Fremantle), performing over 40 shows in Europe, plus shows in Utah (USA) and Canada. On top of this she has played all around WA – Broome, Geraldton, Margaret River, Bunbury etc.

Other highlights are having new local band members join the team – Jarrad Van Dort on guitar and Alex Barker on drums – they have added to a new sound and a new vibe to Toby’s already huge catalogue of original songs.

For Toby’s new six track EP she worked with Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quatermain. “Working with Joel Quartermain is always amazing. He is such a creative soul and belongs in the studio”. Eskimo Joe’s Quartermain recorded and produced half the album, and played drums/bass/keys/electric guitar. The other half is recorded by Rada Studio’s Matt Gio – also playing drums and bass on the tracks. “Matt and I seemed to gel instantly and I am stoked with the end product.”
