Franklin – The Music of Aretha Franklin

Saturday 26 January, 2013

After sell-out shows at His Majesty’s Theatre, Ali Bodycoat’s tribute to one of her all time inspirations – the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, is coming to the Quarry Amphitheatre!

Aretha is one of the most honoured artists in the world today and the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…

Accompanied by a five piece band and backing vocals, including Graham Wood on keys, James Sandon on sax, Rickie Malet on trumpet and Solomon Pitt on backing vocals, Ali celebrates the music and life of Aretha Franklin including her most loved hits Respect, Natural Woman, Chain of Fools and Think.

This tribute will be all about the music – soul, funk, motown and the blues – just as Aretha is…

“Her voice has a vibrancy and potency that conveys the emotional depth of the lyrics”… The West Australian

“The range, volume and length of sound that issued from such a diminutive figure as Bodycoat was quite phenomenal”  Claire Condry – Australian Stage

In support is the one and only Rose Parker, with her beautiful rich vocals..

Rose is an acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist who draws from folk, gospel, blues and alternative country. Her songs go straight to the heart, powerful, passionate and soulful. She has released 4 albums with her previous outfit The Velvet Janes and is currently working on solo album to be released in early 2013.

Tonight she is joined by Dave Brewer on guitar and Roy Martinez on bass and in keeping with tonight’s theme, will draw from her love of blues gospel, performing songs by Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson, Eva Cassidy and a selection of original tunes.

Get to any show you can and find out why this artist is quietly growing a legion of fans.
